A director from AYA Hotels commented: “It is great to once again be expanding our portfolio in Great Yarmouth. The seaside destination has been experiencing a revival in recent years, and we are pleased to be part of that process, providing quality hospitality services for tourists as well as locals. We are looking forward to adding our stamp to the business and welcoming guests during the holiday period and into 2024.”

Josh Sullivan, associate director of the Hotels Agency team at Colliers, added: “The Royal Hotel received substantial interest thanks to its prime location on the seafront, large number of rooms as well as being steeped in history. There were a number of bids for the property, however, the hotel was ultimately purchased by a local consortium, AYA Hotels. This is the second hotel we have sold in Great Yarmouth this year, the first being the former Comfort Hotel in August 2023 to HH Hotels.’’

Built in the mid-1800s, the Grade-II listed hotel was renamed The Royal following a visit by King Edward VII. It was also frequented by literature royalty Charles Dickens who stayed at the hotel between 1848-1849 when he wrote David Copperfield.

The Royal Hotel comprises 55 bedrooms, a spacious bar and tearoom which can host up to 60 guests.

It also offers three distinct event spaces – The Red Lounge, Palm Court and Ballroom Suite – which can host 30, 30 and 100 people at a time respectively.
