What does Interlodge mean, you might ask? According to the Canyon Services Alta and Snowbird, Interlodge refers to "the limit placed on residents and guests when inside town limits (or Snowbird properties) with regard to traveling between lodges, homes and resorts. In other words, you cannot travel between them." Furthermore, Interlodge restrictions are "requirements for all individuals to remain indoors either because of avalanche threat or due to avalanche mitigation effort activity.".

These restrictions are "issued by the town of Alta through the marshal’s office, and they are not a suggestion. It’s actually a legal directive meaning that you can be cited for breaking it. If during Interlodge you require assistance contact the marshal’s office at 801.742.3522 for non-emergencies or by 911 if there is a threat to life."

In other words, a Maximum Security Interlodge restriction makes it so people can't go outside due to the amount of snow and high risk of an avalanche.Other people posted avalanche danger signs, seeing signage around town. One sign read "High avalanche danger, do not go outside! Interlodge travel is closed by order of the Marshall's office. Violators will be fined."

Alta Town Marshal Mike Morey told ABC4 in a previous article on Interlodge restrictions that skiers and snowboarders who attempt to return to the slopes during an interlodge event or leave the buildings for any reason can be charged with a misdemeanor, spend up to six months in jail and pay a $1,000 fine. However, one of the restrictions was lifted later in the day, and as of 11:42 am on the 14th (yesterday) the Max Security Interlodge was lifted, only for the TOA Interlodge Restriction to remain in place.

All this snow may be stoking everyone out, but we hope all restrictions are lifted soon so everyone can get out there and enjoy the snow! You can never have too much of a good thing... right?
