The New “Convenient” Checkout That May Not Be So Magical for Disney World Hotels
In recent months, Walt Disney World Resorts introduced a “streamlined” hotel checkout process designed to simplify departure day. According to Disney’s official policy, if you have a credit card on file and no outstanding charges, you don’t even need to visit the front desk. Guests are automatically checked out at 11:00 a.m. or can manually check out through the My Disney Experience app.
At first glance, it sounds like a dream come true: fewer lines, fewer hassles, and a stress-free way to wrap up your magical stay. But guests are now sounding the alarm that this seemingly simple feature might have an unexpected—and deeply frustrating—flaw.
The Problem: Locked Out Before Checkout
According to reports surfacing across social media and Disney forums, several guests are being checked out prematurely — well before the promised 11:00 a.m. checkout time. The culprit? Location services inside the My Disney Experience app.
Guests say that if they leave the hotel grounds — even briefly to grab breakfast at Disney Springs or to rope-drop a favorite ride — the app may register them as “gone” and initiate an automatic checkout. As a result, their digital room key deactivates, and they find themselves locked out, with their suitcases and personal items still trapped inside the room.
For families with early park reservations or travelers hoping to maximize every minute of their vacation, this glitch can turn an exciting final morning into a scramble to find Cast Members for assistance.
