In a move to support the next generation of entrepreneurs, Virgin Hotels has transformed an elevator in its London property into a unique pitching platform. The initiative comes as new research shows a surge in entrepreneurial ambition among young Britons.
The video-enabled elevator, located outside the hotel's Founders Room, allows entrepreneurs to present their business concept to the camera, with Sir Richard Branson and entrepreneur Simon Squibb providing feedback via their combined social media following of more than 50 million people.
The initiative launched on "Founder Friday" (January 17, 2025), which Virgin StartUp identifies as the year's most entrepreneurial day.
om the organisation reveals that 34% of Britons aspire to run their own business, with 26% of 18-24 year olds planning to launch in 2025. Technology, beauty and wellness, and food and drink are the most popular sectors for new businesses, with 58% citing increased earnings as their motivation.
"It was great to meet Simon and learn more about his career and how he's encouraging the next generation of founders to follow their business dreams," says Sir Richard Branson. "I mentioned that I'd always wanted to set-up an elevator where people could come and pitch their ideas and he loved the idea, so I said 'Screw it, let's do it!'"
