Vegas Strip hotel giant reportedly cuts concierge at most of its resorts

International news
One of the major hospitality companies on the Las Vegas Strip is laying off concierge staff in nearly all of its hotels, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. MGM Resorts confirmed the end of the concierge desk at the MGM Grand, Park MGM, The Signature at MGM Grand, New York-New York, Mandalay Bay and Vdara, the outlet reported. The desks will close Monday.

Concierge desks have long been a traditional amenity at hotels, offering guests a resource for booking restaurant reservations, tours, shows and more. On the MGM Grand site, its concierge services page says they can assist with car rentals, tee times and even marriage proposals. The desk was normally open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

According to the Review-Journal, around 30 employees are impacted by the cuts, which MGM Resorts says are in response to guests’ “evolving” needs. Some fear the layoffs could portend more cutbacks in the future as tourist-dependent businesses across the U.S. remain worried that a recession could cause people to scale back on vacations.

MGM Resorts operates over a dozen hotels on the Strip: Bellagio, Aria, Vdara, the Cosmopolitan, MGM Grand, The Signature at MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, W Las Vegas, the Four Seasons, Park MGM, NoMad Las Vegas, New York-New York, Luxor and Excalibur.
