UKHospitality launches new security guidance for hotel operators
The industry body’s new guest safety principles follow the departure of Travelodge’s CEO amid mounting security breach allegations across the budget hotel operator’s properties
UKHospitality has published new guidance for its members to “further protect guest safety, security and privacy and ensure that access to accommodation is managed safely and appropriately”.
The association said its new guidelines “build on existing robust procedures in place across the accommodation sector in the UK”.
The guidance sets out five principles for accommodation businesses to follow: guest safety comes first; privacy is an essential part of security; verification should be proportionate but effective; well trained employees are the strongest safeguard; and security arrangements should continually improve.
Each principle is outlined in detail in the 38-page document with accompanying recommendations and practical scenarios.
The guidance’s publication comes shortly after the exit of Travelodge’s CEO Jo Boydell this month after a number of reported security breaches across the group’s hotels.
