U.S. hotels named in Iran warning
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned people in seven Middle Eastern countries to avoid U.S.-linked locations, including American hotels. The warning followed Iran’s claims of attacks on U.S. interests in Kuwait and Bahrain.
The IRGC issued the alert through Telegram to residents of the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Syria, according to the New York Post. It urged people to stay away from sites linked to U.S. forces, including hotels and business properties.
“For your safety, you are urged to immediately stay away from military and security bases, facilities, and headquarters, as well as locations where U.S. forces are deployed,” the IRGC said. “These locations include American hotels, American banks, American companies, high-rise towers, properties owned by the Trump family and investments associated with them.”
The developments have put pressure on hotels and hospitality businesses with U.S. ownership, partnerships or branding in the Gulf. Operators are reviewing security measures as tensions affect commercial and civilian locations.
Trump has developments and planned projects in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The warning placed US-linked hotels and branded properties in the region under scrutiny as potential targets.
The IRGC’s reference to American hotels and corporate properties raised concerns among hospitality groups operating in the region. The threat comes as the U.S. seeks to prevent Iran from disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
