According to the Nepali Embassy in Germany, which oversees Romanian affairs, the victims are 21-year-old Soni Limbu of Mai Municipality-7, Ilam, and 24-year-old Sushmita Tamang of Dakshinkali Municipality-9, Kathmandu.
The embassy said another Nepali worker, 22-year-old Sumina Magar of Chulachuli Municipality-3, Ilam, was injured while being rescued but has since been discharged from the hospital.
Local Nepalis said Limbu had been working at the hotel for a year and Tamang for five months. Narayan Bahadur BK from Myagdi, who also works there, said the fire broke out around 7am. “Soni and Sushmita were staying in the staff room on the top floor. They had a duty from 7am. When the fire started, they called for help. The fire engine arrived quickly, but they could not be saved,” BK told the Post.
Before the incident, local authorities had fined the hotel 100,000 Romanian Leu and shut it down for failing to meet safety standards. Renovation work, including electrical repairs, was underway when the fire occurred.
