Study Finds Hotel Bed Bug Treatments Emit as Much CO₂ as 229 Transatlantic Flights

International news
A new study commissioned by Valpas, a company specializing in sustainable, bed bug-free hospitality, reveals that conventional bed bug treatments in hotels generate significant carbon emissions.

The study finds that eradicating bed bugs in a 50-room hotel emits as much CO₂ as 229 one-way flights from London to New York, according to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Carbon Emissions Calculator.

With one in 50 hotel rooms experiencing an infestation each year, the hospitality industry faces substantial financial and environmental consequences.

The global cost of bed bug outbreaks exceeds €15 billion annually, factoring in lost revenue, reputation damage, and chemical treatment expenses.
