Stay for seven shillings? This luxury London hotel is offering rooms at 1900s prices

International news
Now is the best time to book thanks to Kimpton Fitzroy. To celebrate the iconic Russell Square hotel’s 125th anniversary, it’s offering customers a one-of-a-kind chance to book one of 125 rooms at the same price it would have cost punters back in 1900.

That is, seven shillings and sixpence, the equivalent of around £50. To put that in perspective, that’s less than a Travelodge on the city’s outskirts. And a double room at the hotel usually costs around £288.

The offer went live from 10am on June 2, and isavailable via kimptonfitzroylondon.com. Rooms will also be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until they’re gone, so make sure you get online quickly.

The Kimpton Fitzroy was one of the first hotels in London to offer en suite bathrooms and electric lighting, which helped make it into one of London’s most prestigious destinations. These days, it still features many of the hotel’s original features, like the zodiac-inspired mosaic in the entrance call and the marble walls.
