The Albanian Investment Corporation (AIC) said two consortia, involving Spanish hospitality group Melia Hotels International, foreign architectural studios, and local construction firms, have won design and development tenders to convert two state-owned seaside residences into high-end hospitality facilities.

A partnership between Melia, Albania-based construction firm Xhenis-Sh LLC, and architectural studios Saunders Architecture (Norway), Smart Studio (Kosovo), and Vogt (Switzerland) will design and develop a hospitality project in the tourist village of Velipoje in northwestern Albania, the AIC said in a LinkedIn post last week.

For the design and development of a facility in the southwestern city of Vlora, Albania picked a consortium comprising Melia, Albanian construction firm Edil-Al, Albania’s diversified company Zdrava, architectural studios Studio Precht from Austria, Albania’s Studio V10, Jeshile, Studio Abga, architects Ledia Konstandini, Lindita Pelivani, Altisfer Golloshi, and Austria’s wood construction firm Holzbau Majer.

The residences were built during communist era to accommodate high-ranking government officials and functionaries.
