Silversea postpones Chile hotel opening to October
Silversea Cruises has delayed the opening of its hotel on the southern tip of South America until October 2026.
The Cormorant at 55 South, a hotel in the Chilean town of Puerto Williams, is being built for Antarctica cruise guests who buy fly-cruise packages. It had been scheduled to open in January and be available for most of the upcoming Antarctica season.
Silversea did not give a reason for the delay beyond a need to "ensure every detail meets Silversea standards." Silversea said it is putting the final touches on the project.
Silversea president Bert Hernandez had called Puerto Williams a "very unforgiving, difficult place to build." The cruise line had the hotel rooms constructed modularly in Argentina, and then shipped to Puerto Williams.
Besides being a place for fly-in guests to recharge before their Antarctica voyage, the hotel will offer excursions such as guided hikes and birdwatching.
