The company is addressing a problem that has long been difficult for hotels to solve. Showers account for a meaningful share of guestroom water and energy consumption, yet aggressive conservation measures can backfire if guests perceive weaker pressure, slower temperature delivery or a diminished bathroom experience. Shower Stream’s answer is to reduce the time hot water runs when nobody is standing beneath it, rather than simply restricting flow throughout the entire shower. Its retrofit device installs between the existing shower arm and showerhead, allowing hotels to retain their current fixtures, finishes and brand standards. Guests operate the shower normally. When the water reaches the desired temperature while the shower remains unoccupied, the system pauses or sharply reduces the flow, then restores it when the guest enters or returns.
The device uses radar rather than a camera and does not require a direct line of sight. Shower Stream says the sensor can detect whether someone is using the shower with 99% accuracy despite the heat, steam and humidity of the bathroom environment. The system also collects information about water flow, temperature, pressure and duration. That data is transmitted through the hotel’s Wi-Fi network and made available to property teams through the company’s software platform.
