The all-suite hotel has a part-suspended floor system to minimise vibrations from passing tube trains. Its structural design is expressed through its distinctive roofline ‘crown’ with the floors held up by rods that branch and extend out like a sail boom.
RSHP’s structural design for the Emory responded to severe site constraints with Piccadilly Line tunnels running as close as 6m. This led to the part-suspended floor system structure, with the whole structure sitting on bearings that minimise vibrations from passing trains.
The glazed façade system is designed to high acoustic and thermal performance requirements while a sensitive use of colour and material allows the new building to sit comfortably in its historic context.
