The incident occurred at the Poseidon Palace, a hotel popular with tourists, when sections of plasterboard and air conditioning ducts fell onto around 60 guests who were dining at the time, according to The Mirror.
Emergency services said an eight year old boy and a 78 year old man were among those taken to hospital, though both were later discharged after receiving treatment. Several other guests, aged between 33 and 80, were also transported to local hospitals for further assessment.
Officials from the regional emergency coordination centre deployed SAMU medical units, along with basic life support teams and non assisted transport services, to respond to the incident. Red Cross officials also assisted those affected at the Costa Blanca hotel.
Local media reported that the cause of the ceiling collapse at the three star property remains unknown. They noted that this is not the first structural incident to occur in Benidorm in recent years.
