Multiple incidents have been reported to the National Police, with high-end hotels in the municipalities of Arona and Adeje being the main targets. Thieves have been gaining access to safes in hotel rooms, leading to significant losses for guests at the resorts, which haven’t been named.
One Italian guest had over €3,000 stolen from his room safe, in addition to all of his clothing, while another tourist reported the theft of a €45,000 luxury watch. The nature of these thefts suggests a well-organised operation, with some hoteliers suspecting that the thieves may have inside information. The criminals seem to know which rooms to target, indicating they may be receiving tips from staff within the hotel.
In response, hotels have not only bolstered their internal security but are also keeping a closer watch on outdoor areas such as terraces and gardens, where thieves may be accessing rooms.
