Owner of historic Herring Hotel in downtown Amarillo files for bankruptcy

International news
According to bankruptcy court records, the Herring Hotel Development Company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on March 5. The company listed more than $3.1 million in debt.

Herring Hotel Development Company bought the property, located at Southeast Third Ave. and South Pierce Street, in October 2021.

The $1,875,000 loan from Gulf Capital Lending was modified last March.

According to Potter County’s website, the property was foreclosed on last year.

There was a sale scheduled for November 7, 2023 and again the day of the bankruptcy filing.

But there is no record of anyone buying the property.

According to Preservation Texas, the hotel was built in the 1920s by Cornelius Taylor Herring, a pioneer cattleman, oilman and banker.

It is 14 stories tall and has 600 rooms.
