French prosecutors on Monday confirmed an infant was taken to hospital after being found outside a hotel in the trendy 20th arrondissement of the French capital on Monday morning, but died in emergency care.
Detectives believe the baby was thrown from the window of a second-floor room, police sources quoted by French news outlet Paris Match said.
It was said the child still had its umbilical cord attached and was wrapped in a cloth.
The young woman was taken to hospital, where she was ‘placed in police custody on the spot’ according to comments by the Paris public prosecutor’s office reported in local media.
She was part of a group of young adults traveling in Europe.
According to local newspaper Le Parisien, the hotel is an Ibis Style on Rue des Réglises/
Officials said a homicide investigation has been opened.
