National City hotel evacuated after dumpster fire sends smoke into building - The early morning fire caused between $20,000 and $30,000 in damage at the Best Western Marina Gateway Hotel; the cause is under investigation

When firefighters arrived they found a “fully involved” fire in a secured enclosure with the trash dumpster inside on the west side of the hotel, said National City Fire Department Battalion Chief Robert Hernandez. He said a hotel room near the dumpster suffered moderate smoke damage. No one was injured in the fire. “It was occupied by two adults who were soon thereafter relocated to another area of the hotel,” he said.

The fire caused $20,000 to $30,000 worth of damage, mainly to the enclosure and the dumpster. The fire also caused smoke and fire damage to the exterior of the building and cracked windows in a ground-floor hotel room, he said. Firefighters from San Diego, Chula Vista and National City were able to knock down the fire in about 15 minutes.
