Madhya Pradesh: Police ‘assault’ Jabalpur hotel employee during ‘jewellery theft’ interrogation - The incident led to widespread protests by the Banskar community, demanding justice for the victim and accountability for the responsible police officers

According to reports, the police allegedly misbehaved with an employee of the hotel during questioning. 

Police assault hotel employee during interrogation

The police had called a woman, an employee of the hotel, and another young man for questioning regarding the theft. During the interrogation, the police reportedly crossed ethical boundaries in which the police brutally assaulted the woman and forcibly got her clothes removed based on suspicion. When the woman fainted during the assault, instead of seeking immediate medical attention, the police officers left her outside the police station.

Banskar community members stage protest

The Banskar community members staged protests in front of the police station. They demanded action against the two accused police officers. Upon learning about the incident, Jabalpur Police Superintendent Aditya Pratap Singh personally intervened, and assured action against the guilty police officers. He ordered a departmental investigation into the entire incident. City Police Superintendent Pankaj Mishra has been assigned to probe the case. The victim is undergoing treatment at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical Hospital in Jabalpur.
