London, Istanbul and Dublin set to add most hotel rooms in Europe

London, Istanbul and Dublin are the European cities forecast to see the highest number of new hotel rooms this year, according to figures from industry analyst CoStar. Across Europe, CoStar is forecasting that there will be just under 107,000 new rooms added during this year, including those properties that have already opened in early 2025.

London continues to lead the way in hotel development with the UK capital’s new properties expected to add more than 5,600 rooms in 2025. This is well ahead of Istanbul at 3,920 rooms and Dublin at just under 3,200 rooms. They are the only three cities in Europe predicted to add at least 3,000 hotel rooms this year.

CoStar said current hotel projects under construction in Europe are forecast to add around 171,000 rooms in total, with another 86,000 rooms in the final planning stage and 163,000 rooms in the initial planning phase.

Dubai continues to see the highest level of hotel development in the Middle East with more than 5,300 hotels predicted to be added in 2025, although three Saudi Arabian cities also feature in the top five cities: Makkah, Riyadh and Jeddah.

In Asia Pacific, China continues to dominate with Shanghai, Chengdu and Shenzhen the top three markets for new rooms this year, although both Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok also feature in the top six in the region.

New York City and Nashville will be the top US destinations for new hotel rooms his year, with the Dominican Republic and Toronto leading the way in other parts of the Americas region.
