Locals evacuated after hotel suffers partial collapse in Lancaster County

Locals living near a hotel in Columbia were evacuated out of precaution Friday evening after the building; which was under construction at the time, partially collapsed.
The Hampton by Hilton at Chip Factory Hotel made a post on social media following the collapse, explaining that nobody was hurt when the building fell, and all of the damages occurred within the construction's security fence.
The hotel further explained that the wall was in the process of being removed when it happened to come down on its own.
The hotel, which is a rehabilitation effort in the area, is in the place of what formerly was the Becker Potato Chip Factory and Wilson Hardware, built in 1874.
The hotel is expected to be complete in the Spring of 2026.
