Schrager has collaborated with British architect John Pawson on the site in California, which has seen a conversion of former Standard Hotel on Sunset Boulevard.
PUBLIC West Hollywood will comprise 137 bedrooms, alongside three destination food, beverage and entertainment outlets. Additional amenities will include a pool, ‘social hub’ lobby, and a landscaped 16,000 square-foot open-air rooftop terrace boasting 360-degree views of Los Angeles.
Press materials say the hotel will showcase ‘Schrager’s vision of democratic luxury’ through curated multi-sensory experiences, built on four key pillars – great service, style, entertainment and experience.
Schrager launched the first PUBLIC site, in New York’s Lower East Side in 2017.
In 2023, he announced plans to expand the PUBLIC brand with additional US locations, including the soon-to-launch West Hollywood site and further projects in Miami, Florida Brooklyn, New York and London, England.
Schrager is often credited with launching the boutique hotel movement, having masterminded iconic brands such as Morgans Hotel Group and EDITION Hotels.
