Ian Schrager hosted New York’s famed Studio 54 nightclub, pioneered the boutique lodging business and launched a successful hotel partnership with Marriott.

Now at 79 years old, his latest act is to jump-start his long-stalled hotel brand.

Schrager is teaming up with Highgate, one of the country’s biggest hotel managers, to operate Public Hotels. The partners aim to acquire existing hotels or even small hotel companies, build new hotels and convert current Highgate properties all under the Public flag, Schrager said.
