Historic Edinburgh department store to be converted into boutique hotel

International news
Construction has commenced on a project to transform the historic Jenners Building in Edinburgh into a multi-use development home to a boutique hotel.

The former department store on the city’s Princes Street is a Category A-listed structure and spreads across 10 floors and 17,500 square metres.

Construction firm Graham has been appointed to carry out the shell and core works at the historic flagship building, while its ‘sensitive restoration’ will be overseen by David Chipperfield Architects and focus on reviving many original features that have been lost over time.

When complete, the multi-use development will be home to a 90-bedroom boutique hotel across its upper floors, as well as a cafe and a few bars and restaurants.

The Jenners Building is owned by AAA United, a real estate company headed up by Danish retail billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen.

The building first opened in 1895 and was expanded in 1903, with further additions in the 1950s and 60s.

It publicly closed its doors to the public in December 2020.
