The Council of State suspended plans to build 127 “personal” swimming pools – each attached to a room – a communal pool and 11 new buildings at the White Coast hotel on Mytakas pending the court’s final ruling on the matter following a hearing set for May 6.
But the court allowed work to go ahead on work to “improve and repair” existing hotel structures and to erect three new buildings as well as a sewage treatment plant.
Tuesday’s ruling followed legal action by the Milos municipality, the Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage and Milos residents, who argued that the planned works contravene environmental legislation.
Milos, in the Cyclades group of islands, has seen massive tourist development in recent years.
