Former Gladstone Hotel manager banned from managing licensed venues
The former manager of the Gladstone Hotel in Stockton has had his approval to manage licensed premises withdrawn after an investigation by Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) found a patron was served 21 alcoholic drinks before collapsing outside the venue.
The decision by the Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (ILGA) follows an investigation into an incident on 23 March 2024, when a complaint was made after a male patron collapsed outside the hotel.
Investigators found the patron consumed 21 alcoholic beverages – 19 beers and two shots – between 12.57pm and 6.27pm before leaving the venue in an advanced state of intoxication.
Dimitri Argeres, Executive Director of Regulatory Operations at L&GNSW, said the case demonstrated the importance of venues meeting their responsible service of alcohol obligations.
The disciplinary action follows an earlier decision involving the Gladstone Hotel, with former licensee Tracy Keegan banned for two years in May 2024 over a separate serious intoxication incident.
In that case, an intoxicated patron was served 22 schooners of beer and a shot over six-and-a-half hours despite displaying clear signs of intoxication.
The Gladstone Hotel’s liquor licence has since been transferred to a new licensee.
