Eurovision 2025: Hotel Association Fights Back Against Price Gouging

International news
Swiss media reports that the Basel branch of the Hotel Association has set a new rule to ensure that price gouging among its members does not occur. The organisation agreed at a meeting in November that for the week of the Eurovision Song Contest, a room should not cost double the rate charged by Basel Tourism for rooms.

In practice, this means that if a room normally costs 200 CHF, the maximum the room can be advertised for is 400 CHF. This agreement will apply to around 1,000 rooms that are set to be released back to the market in January.

Franz-Xaver Leonhardt, President of Hotelleriesuisse Basel and Region explained that they do not want to put the reputation of hotels in Basel at risk for short-term gain. Mr Leonhardt added that Basel hoteliers expect to have a strong year with Eurovision and the UEFA European Women’s Championship taking place in the city.

The 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Basel on May 13, 15, and 17, 2025.
