Adrian Zecha, the founder of ultra-luxury Aman resorts, has just unveiled his next hospitality brand

International news
The renowned hotelier and visionary is turning his attention to Azuma Farm, a cultivated retreat nestled in Koiwai, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. Set in the forests of northern Japan, Koiwai Farm was once a volcanic, inhospitable landscape that has been gradually restored into a 2,000-hectare ecosystem.

Led by Kyoto-based architect Shiro Miura, the buildings are constructed from trees sourced directly from the surrounding forest, integrating the material history of the land into the structures themselves.

The intimate hotel has only 24 villa-style rooms, spread across an eight-hectare grove, crafted from local red pine and cypress trees, letting the surrounding natural landscape take center stage.

Azuma Farm Koiwai officially opens April 23, 2026, and starting rates are $1,500 per night, which include breakfast, dinner, the in-room minibar, and a variety of experiences such as stargazing and twilight aperitif.
