A number of former management team members were in attendance on the evening, including former general managers Conor Hennigan and Sinead Marron, and some of those in attendance went to great efforts to be a part of the special event, travelling from the UK and even Chicago. Proceeds on the €25-a-head night were in aid of Comfort for Chemo and the celebration included a reflection on the history of the hotel by Frank Corr, author of A Star Reborn which was released to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the hotel 20 years ago.

Michael Jacobi, managing director of the Hayfield Family Collection commented: “This event was not just a celebration of the institution that is the Great Southern but a heartfelt tribute to the legacy each one of our colleagues – past and present – has contributed to this iconic hotel”. He said the Great Southern has been a nurturing ground for future leaders, a place where lifelong friendships were formed and a stage for countless stories.
