Raleigh boutique hotel named one of the 'most incredible hotels' in the world

Heights House Hotel is one of 12 U.S. hotels to make the list, which was curated by travel experts. A Raleigh boutique hotel has been named one of the 60 "Most Incredible Hotels in the World," according to Fodor's Travel guide. Commissioned by William Montfort Boylan in 1858, Heights House sits in the historic Boylan Heights neighborhood in downtown Raleigh. Sarah and Jeff Shepherd purchased the abandoned Italianate-style mansion in 2018 and decided to turn the historic home into a boutique hotel.

"The inspiration for Heights House was really a combination of things," Sarah told WRAL in an interview. "It was a love for history and architecture and saving a piece of Raleigh that was deteriorating and not being taken care of. And the other part was to bring something to our downtown area that really was missing."

Heights House opened in 2021 as a nine-room boutique hotel and event venue. They have since added an Italian inspired parlor bar featuring all Italian wines and Italian influenced craft cocktails. Fodor's Travel hailed Heights House for its "heirloom-meets-modernity ethos" and "vintage charm." "The perfect balance of elegant authenticity and intimate comfort makes for an incredibly charming, one-of-a-kind stay," the travel website said of the hotel.
