The Lana, Dubai
Created by award-winning architecture firm, Foster + Partners, The Lana in Dubai is the newest addition to the Marasi Coastline. The February opening revealed a visual concept with a French tilt, with soft hues, parquet flooring and white wainscoting appearing throughout. The hotel has eight bar and dining venues, a soon-to-open Dior Spa and 225 guest rooms and suites. For an unforgettable bathing experience, book a stay in the Junior Suite or Marina Terrace Suite.
La Sultana, Marrakech
In the Kasbah’s centre, La Sultana Marrakech is a boutique hotel with exemplary service. The 28 guest rooms and suites are expertly decorated with eye-catching artwork, bold colour palettes and plush textiles. The lush gardens, pool, spa, gym and rooftop terrace with city views may be the initial drawcards for hotel guests, but the bathrooms deserve a moment in the limelight, too. Carved timber ceilings, marble columns, tailormade tadelakt and gleaming metallic hardware take centre stage in the generous hotel bathrooms, the best of which are found in the Deluxe Suite and Peacock Riad Room.
Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel, Paris
Set within a neo-classical 18th-century building overlooking Place de la Concorde, Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel is designed around the French concept art de vivre, or, art of living. A quintessential Parisian aesthetic is established through layered materials and luxurious furnishings, while butler service, a pool, spa, fitness studio, hair salon and gourmet dining venues round out the full-service offering. However, those seeking a private sanctuary should book a stay in Le Grands Appartments. The marble hotel bathroom features a huge freestanding tub with a direct line of sight to the Hôtel des Invalides.
Bulgari Hotel, Rome
The ninth property from the Italian jeweller and fashion house, Bulgari Hotel Roma is housed in a 1930s modernist building at Piazza Augusto Imperatore. The exterior architecture and original interior character have been restored and refurbished, then paired with a timeless design scheme. The revival of the property was a collaborative effort between Milan-based architectural studio, ACPV Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, and Studio Polis of Rome architect, Gennaro Farina. With a pool, library, Bulgari Spa, alfresco terraces and a restaurant with views over the tomb of Emperor Augustus, the Bulgari Hotel is a destination in itself. The Bulgari Suite is especially worth a stay, with a green marble vanity station, frameless showers and a freestanding marble tub with open-window views over Rome.
Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich
Zurich’s Mandarin Oriental Savoy reopened its doors at the end of 2023 after a multi-million-dollar renovation to reveal interiors of timeless elegance with modern sophistication. Paris-based interior designer, Tristan Auer, helmed the refurbishment of the historic 19th-century building, establishing a curated interior that effortlessly merges historical details with today’s style. The hotel bathroom in the Presidential Suite is a lovely environment in which to ready oneself in the morning, bathed with natural light and finished with veined marble.
Four Seasons Hotel, Florence
Boasting a Michelin-starred Italian restaurant, sprawling walled gardens, a spa and private hair-air balloon rides, the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze is a leafy haven of tranquillity in the centre of Florence. The building dates back to the 15th century and was once a palace known as Palazzo della Gherardesca. Today, the rooms, suites and common areas are designed to reflect the property’s history, with ceiling frescoes, velvet-upholstered furniture, crystal chandeliers and grandiose archways. The concept has been extended to the hotel bathrooms, with the majestic amenities of the Royal Suite one of the best examples. The mirror and console table are gilded, sconces flank the vanity mirror and artwork hangs on the wall beside the marble tub.
Hotel Maria, Helsinki
Helsinki’s Hotel Maria opened in 2023 and ushered in a new era of Nordic hospitality. A restaurant, bar and garden terrace keep guests entertained until late, while the Maria Spa and Wellness Club aids in a swift recovery the morning after. The hotel itself occupies four historic buildings protected by The Finnish Heritage Agency, and the design concept throughout is reminiscent of days gone by. Whitewashed interiors are grounded with blonde parquet flooring and rounded boucle furniture softens the contemporary edge. The Maria Imperial Suite is an especially regal option with a round standalone spa bath, double vanities, pendant lighting and a daybed for lounging by the windows.
Aman, Tokyo
Traditional Japanese design is a key influencer of the interior scheme at Aman Tokyo. Ikebana displays, washi paper doors and engawa platforms appear throughout the hotel and the guest rooms are fashioned in ryokan style. A high-contrast colour palette of textural charcoal and smooth blonde timber is used in public and private spaces. Guests are entertained at the many on-site dining venues, the spa and private Iaido sessions, and can then relax in the soothing suites. The Tokyo Suite has a restorative hotel bathroom space comprised of clean lines, stone and shades of grey. Guests can soak away their worries while enjoying a panoramic view of Tokyo’s skyline.
One&Only Za’abeel, Dubai
Marketed as the ‘ultimate urban resort’, One&Only One Za’abeel is a brand new property in Dubai. It’s home to the city’s first Longevity Hub by Clinique La Prairie, a three-story health and wellness centre. There are 11 culinary concepts on offer, plus a futuristic floating boulevard known as ‘The Link’. In the Deluxe Suite, you’ll find one of the most curated hotel bathrooms in the world. Styled similarly to a kitchen or living space, the bathroom is crafted from a careful selection of tiles, timber, stone, wainscoting and textiles. The result is a luxurious space that guests are loathe to leave.
Le Meurice, Paris
Standing opposite the Tuileries Garden in Paris, Le Meurice is a 19th-century palatial hotel known for its unrivalled grandeur. The ceilings are frescoed, the wall panels are gilded and sumptuous rugs line the floors. A mix of French Provincial and Queen Anne furniture is peppered across the many rooms. The glamour continues in the guest suites, and the Belle Etoile Penthouse Suite with Terrace is one of the best. The expansive hotel bathroom is lined entirely with marble and the vanities, tapware and lighting are all gold. A circular spa bath (with enough room for two!) sits beneath a bay window with a leafy outlook, while the sun washes the room in light from two other windows on the adjacent walls.
Conservatorium, Amsterdam
Once a bank, then a music school and now known as one of the best luxury hotels in Amsterdam, Conservatorium Hotel has contemporary interiors that fuse Scandi minimalism with Dutch tactility. The Akasha Spa won the Best Hotel Spa at the 2023 World Spa Awards, the culinary offering is high-end and the guest rooms and suites are divine. The hotel bathrooms are finished with golden-hued stone tiling and exposed timber beams, cocooning tubs and sparkling chrome hardware.
