Mandarin Oriental Mayfair unveils uniform designs

The hotel, located on Hanover Square, was first due to open in 2022 but was postponed to spring 2024.

Mandarin Oriental has now unveiled sketches of the hotel uniforms, which have been designed by Nicholas Oakwell – creative director of NO Uniform.

The design combines classic British tailoring with nods to the hotel group’s Asian heritage. Uniforms have been locally manufactured with British suiting fabrics, with clothing featuring cherry blossom embroidery and a sleeve inspired by the kimono. Bartenders, meanwhile, will sport a bomber jacket styled shirt and jacket with dragon embroidery.

Nicholas Oakwell, Creative Director of NO Uniform commented:

“I am delighted that the team at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair hotel has embraced and love the uniforms I have created. It brings me immense joy to see their excitement about wearing them. Given their long hours, it’s crucial that they wear something they genuinely love, which is both functional and comfortable, perfectly suited for their roles.”

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair occupies a building designed by Rogers Stick Harbour and Partners, with 50 rooms and suites designed by UK-based Studio Indigo and public spaces by Tokyo-based studio Curiosity

The opening marks the second hotel in the English capital for the luxury hotel group, with an existing property in Knightsbridge – Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park.

This will be followed by a third hotel in London in 2028, situated on London’s South Bank.
